The YMCA is the largest non-profit provider of childcare in Canada—in Fort McMurray, we currently offer two daycare and one out-of-school care. Children have the right to a secure, safe and age-appropriate program that fosters social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Our programs provide the opportunity for each child to grow and develop in an enjoyable, welcoming, safe and positive environment. We provide an atmosphere that encourages independence, self-esteem, responsibility and respect for self and others.
Our program sites are staffed by professionally-trained, carefully-chosen personnel who possess an Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent. All staff members participate in child development training, hold current CPR and First Aid certificates, and have cleared a thorough criminal police check. Preschool staff are also trained in the YMCA Play to Learn system of delivery. Our child care staff are imaginative, creative and enthusiastic, and offer programs which foster healthy child development.
The YMCA program follows learning through play philosophy. The children are provided with opportunities to enhance all developmental areas. These opportunities are provided through a variety of developmental play centers. The staff develops the play centers and adds materials and equipment to extend the child's play and development. Staff also interacts with the children during play to facilitate learning and seek out opportunities to enhance the play centers and thus extend the child's learning.
