In Alberta, employers determine their decision on who to hire based on educational credentials, work experience (technical skills) and personal qualifications (soft skills).
Some professions also require membership in their professional association in order to be employed.
Most employers will require verification of your credentials (e.g. copy of degree/ diploma), including confirmation of work experience (e.g. reference check with previous employer).
Employers value soft skills such as communication, teamwork, creativity, adaptability, problem solving skills, positive attitude, wiliness to learn, etc.
