YMCA Events / YMCA World Peace Week 2010
What is YMCA Peace Week? During the week of November 20th to the 27th, 2010 all YMCA's in Canada will educate through activities designed to involve children, youth and adults in exploring peace from a local and global perspective. Get to know these amazing people who are making a difference in your community through daily acts of peace.
Meet the 2009 YMCA Peace Medallion individual and group participants:
Dan Rizzutto is among many other things, a principal, soccer coach and a dad. He is a favourite of kids and parents alike and spent countless hours helping children to develop into upstanding citizens of this community. Dan brings a quiet, but profound leadership to this community and leaves a lasting impression wherever he goes.
The Walkie Talkies is a diverse group of spouses who get together to walk the beautiful trails in Fort McMurray all year round but also meet for art lessons, bridge, golf, gym classes, sewing, community volunteer work and generally socializing. The group is not only made up of Shell spouses, some are local, but most are expatriates with a wealth of talents and most importantly friendship This group regularly volunteers with Unity House, Alberta Health Services Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Every year, the YMCA of Fort McMurray celebrates peace builders. The annual YMCA Peace Medallions are given to honour youth and adults from all walks of life who commit their volunteer time to advancing peace in their own communities or abroad.
Even if you can't think of someone to nominate, you probably know someone who can. Please feel free to share this information with others and help us spread the word about peace!
